What is Personal Injury Protection?

What is Personal Injury Protection and how does it apply to a Maryland auto accident?

Here are some rules that you need to know about  Personal Injury Protection, also known as PIP:

  1. If you have PIP on your Insurance Policy, it pays medical bills & lost wages for you, even if you were at fault in the accident;
  2. Your insurance company cannot raise your rates if you use your PIP insurance;
  3. You need to file a claim within one year of the accident to receive benefits, so call the insurance company for the car you were in as soon as you can after the accident;
  4. Never waive or give up your PIP coverage.  If you have auto insurance, you have to have  PIP for your passengers, so you should have insurance for yourself also.
